Dunrobin Castle, Scotland

Drove down to Dunrobin Castle today – the scenery could not be captured by my camera and I cannot describe it without using the words beautiful and awesome.  I feel like I am over-using those words!

God truly made this part of our world beautiful.

It was a sunny day – this alone increases the beauty of this country.  We made a stop along the road just before the castle so we could get pictures from the distance.

After arriving, we walked all around the gardens – only 1 gardener and 1 assistant keep these grounds beautiful.  We talked to the Falconer before the bird show, saw the show and then got to have our picture taken with the owl.

After the Falcon Demonstration, we followed the people riding in vans out the back gate.  I went to the “driver” of the car and asked if we could get to the beach from that spot.  Of course, we are in Scotland so I went to the WRONG side of the car!  The guy was really nice and after we all laughed, I spoke to the driver.  He told us how to get to the beach and back to the front of the castle – just a short walk.

We walked out to the beach and checked it out.  We could have taken a picnic and sat there for a long time enjoying the view.

The short walk turned out to be all uphill – I think the guy giving us directions and our tour guide, April, underestimated the fitness level of my calves!

There were tours from the Norwegian Jewel at the castle as well.  They sailed south along the coast last night.

The inside of the castle has 17 rooms open for viewing.  A docent told one person in front of us that the current Countess lives in the castle.

Note:  There are only 3 toilets for the ladies and there was always a queue.
