Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas – Ship Tour

Dueling Waterslides (Typhoon and Cyclone)
Dueling Waterslides (Typhoon and Cyclone)

We recently got a chance to tour the newly renovated Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas.  The main public areas have all been upgraded.  Including the Perfect Storm Sports deck adding a Flowrider, Dueling Waterslides (Typhoon and Cyclone) and Adventure Dunes Putt Putt Golf course.  The Promenade has been modified to add Izumi Specialty restaurant and Chops Specialty restaurants.  Giovanni’s Table, a specialty restaurant, has been relocated outside of the Windjammer buffet.  Windjammer had a facelift to update the seating areas, buffet lines and adding a bar at the back of the dining area.   Sapphire Dining Room was also given a face lift.  The Lyric Theatre was given a facelift including new seating / chairs and beautiful curtains on the stage.

The nice part about this ship is the completely enclosed Promenade.  No matter what the weather is doing you can easily shop, eat or just wander around up and down the Promenade. The Duck and Dog Pub is easily found along the Promenade for your drink, wine, beer or favorite spirit.

If you are worried about the food on a smaller ship, don’t fret you have lots of options:

Complimentary – Main Dining Room, Windjammer Café (buffet style), Café Promenade (quick snacks), Island Grill and 24 hour room service.

Izumi Japanese CuisineSpecialty – Chops Grille (great Steaks), Giovanni’s Table (Italian), Izumi Japanese Cuisine (sushi rolls, sashimi, hot rock plates) and Johnny’s Rockets (great burgers, fries, onion rings and milk shakes).  If you have the need for Ben and Jerry’s ice cream – then check out the shop on the Promenade.

Worried about not having enough to do while on a smaller ship?  Don’t worry here are some of the active options:

Dual Racing Waterslides, Splashaway Bay (aqua park for the kids), Flowrider Surf Simulator (stand up surfing or wave rider), Studio B Ice Skating Rink, Rock Climbing Wall, Adventure Dunes Nine Hole Miniature Golf Course, poolside movie screen, running track, basketball court.

Concerned you will not have enough spaces to have a drink or meet / greet other passengers?  Don’t worry about that, here are all the public spaces to get a drink or relax: Cloud Nine, Boleros (Latin themed), Pool Bar, Solarium Bar, Schooner Bar, Champagne Bar, Duck and Dog Pub, Gravity Sports Bar, Blue Moon Club, Seven Hearts Card Room, Viking Crown Lounge.

Concerned the kids will not have anywhere to go?  Don’t worry they have you covered with specific spaces for each age group: Adventure Ocean for the younger kids and Optix Teen Disco for the teenagers.  We have personally used the Adventure Ocean many years as our girls grew up.  In fact, both girls learned to ice skate in Studio B ice skating rink during free skate.

Worried about being pampered or just relaxing?  Don’t fret there are many options on the ship:  Vitality Spa and Fitness Center, Solarium adult only retreat (pool and bar).

Want to see some good shows – check out the Broadway Style entertainment in the main theater.  If you want to gamble some – then check out the Casino Royale.

The Locator screens can be a great help to determine what is for dinner, what is the schedule of events or just help you find where something is on the ship.

Pictures are now found in Kiosks by swiping your room key to see the portfolio of pictures.  You don’t have to weed through all the pictures for embarkation, dinner or specific backgrounds.  You have a choice to purchase the paper picture or a digital version of your photos.  See the first couple of days Cruise Planner for specials on getting a sale on some pictures to remember your cruise vacation.

The Kids programs all had facelifts.   Don’t forget to check out the Ice Rink where you can see a great Ice Show and learn how to ice skate at free skating times.

With the addition of the Free Style Soda Machines on board the ships, you can have your favorite soda anytime you want by purchasing the Soda Beverage package.  You will receive a cup to use for the entire cruise.  Several of the machines can be found throughout the ship for easy access.

Promenade view rooms instead of other balconies can be cost effective and very entertaining as you can view the parade from your room with the picture window onto the Promenade below.

One other note is about single rooms which are called Studio Interior cabins.  These are great for people traveling alone or wanting to have a cabin to themselves.

With these upgrades to the Adventure of the Seas, there is no reason to skip considering these smaller ships as they go through the renovation in the next couple of years.  Adventure is the first ship to finish the complete renovation.

Just a few fun facts about the Adventure of the Seas: Built in Finland and maiden voyage Nov 18, 2001.  She carries 3,807 guests with 1,185 crew.  She has total of 1,557 stateroom cabins.  She has 15 decks, 14 guest elevators and 4 bow thrusters.
