Cincinnati OH and Covington KY

Our Upper Mississippi River Cruise is now an Ohio River Cruise and as a result, we have 1/2 a day to explore Cincinnati, OH and Covington, KY. Just a quick mention of the airport — it is nice. The walk to our luggage was pretty long but we chose to walk instead of taking the subway system and our luggage was waiting for us when we got there.

We got a taxi at the airport and arrived at the Marriott before 1 p.m. We were checked-in early – that is awesome – and set out to explore the area. This hotel is right on the river and has some great views – we even had a view of the river from our hotel room. After putting our luggage in the room we headed out to find some food and explore.

I also have to make a note that it was very hot – much hotter than usual for this area and hot for us Florida girls.

We took the Trolley on a sight-seeing tour. We hopped on and for $1 got a great air-conditioned tour of Covington, Cincinnati, and Newport. Our driver was great but after talking with some of the people we discovered that this was a hit or miss type of situation – when we boarded the trolley we asked our driver lots of questions and asked him to tell us all about the area as he was driving so this may have made a difference.

There is a very interesting condominium building here called the Ascent at Roebling’s Bridge. It looks different from every direction. It even has a website.

In the middle of downtown Cincinnati, is a park where they have live music almost every day (but not the day we were there). Our trolley driver told us that it usually full of people enjoying the evening. The waterfront has a wonderful park with lots of flowers and shade and many activities for families. Mom played on the keyboard, the drums and the water area. I would love to see something like this in Jacksonville – I think our river is pretty and that the surrounding areas should be pretty too.

The Ohio River is brown — looks muddy. The trolley driver said the level is down and sometimes the water comes over the stairs in the park – that is pretty high!

We walked over the Suspension Bridge, which is closed to cars right now. This bridge spans the Ohio River between Ohio and Kentucky. We walked both ways. Locals probably don’t think anything about it but we think it is pretty cool. [AMAZONPRODUCTS asin=”B07BJ1QC1N”]
