Disney with Covid Restrictions

We visited Disney to see what it is like with the Covid Restrictions in place. This is a quick overview that we will update each time we visit.

Updated for 01/21 Visit

Masks & Hand Sanitizer

Disney is very serious about wearing your mask all the time.  It must be over your nose and chin and attach behind your ears.  You can take it off to eat and drink but you must be stationary to do this – so although you can walk around with a drink, you have to stop and stand still to remove your mask and take a drink.

Your pictures will not be available if the mask does not cover your nose and there was a Cast Member holding a sign at the entrance of Magic Kingdom saying to keep your mask on when taking pictures.

There are hand sanitizer stations all over the park making it easy to sanitize your hands after visiting an attraction.

Lines

Yes, there are lines – but most of them move.  The wait time listed is actually the amount of time it takes for you to walk through the line.  Every area has markings on the ground showing where to stand – you have to pay attention because they are not always every 6 feet – sometimes they stretch an entire row of a line to make sure people are not standing close to each other.  It is well thought out and most of the lines move very quickly.

Some portions of the line have plexiglass between the rows to keep you from having contact with lots of people.

In January 21, we noticed that many of the lines have been moved outside.  They are very creative in creating lines (as usual).  Look for the cast member holding the sign saying “Line Starts Here”.

Parking

They are parking cars differently to help keep people away from each other.  If you pay attention and realize it is different, you will be fine.  Parking is $25 per car or $50 for Preferred Parking.

From the Ticket and Transportation Center, you can take the Monorail, the Boat or a Bus to Magic Kingdom.  On Saturday morning, the line for the bus was the shortest so we checked it out.  You are placed on a “dot” and load the bus one party at a time, family groups separated and plexiglass between sections.  Worked great but when disembarking, everyone just got up and left.

Park Entrance

There are no trams, you will need to walk from the parking lot.  It seems like long walk at Magic Kingdom but not at the other parks.

There is a temperature check but no bag check, you walk through metal detectors as you enter.

Passholder’s still have a special gate but at Magic Kingdom it was marked differently.

The line to get into Magic Kingdom was quite long.  You no longer need to place a finger on the pad, just scan your wrist band.

Rides / Attractions

In 2020, the rides were stopped periodically to clean everything while announcements were made on the loud speaker – it didn’t really take that long.  In January 2021, there were no announcements so they must have a new way to clean them.

There are only a few shows.  At Hollywood Studios, we watched a new movie with seating spaced apart.  We were unable to get into the Frozen Show.

While riding Pirates of the Caribbean, we noticed there was an increased amount of ‘smoke’, about 1/2 way through the ride we recognized that the smoke was actually sanitizer – we have seen it used at church.

  1. It’s always nice to see people enjoy themselves. I hope this does not bum anyone out, but…..I would rather go to Hell on a rainy day than drive by Disney World.
Like all parents, I lived in fear when my son started driving, but, the one redeeming factor was, it meant I never had to go to Disney World again.
